Hi, I’m Josh.
I’m a mature-age electrical engineering student with a passion for power systems, renewable energy, and strategic planning.
Power is everywhere. It keeps businesses running, homes lit, and communities connected. I’m drawn to the challenge of modernising our grid, integrating renewables, and building smarter, more resilient infrastructure as our energy needs evolve.
My path into engineering hasn’t been a straight line.
I started in building design, then spent a decade in marketing, before realising I wanted something more – the chance to solve bigger problems and work on projects that make a real difference to my community. After taking some time to figure out where I could do that, I eventually dove head first into engineering, with the aim to eventually work on Queensland’s energy infrastructure.
Now I’ve switched the copywriting for calculus and serve as an Executive in the Electrical Engineering Student Society (EESS), where I help run workshops, connect with industry, and build hands-on projects with other students. I’ve developed skills in circuit analysis, programming, and electrical systems — but more than that, I’ve found a field that genuinely excites me.
When I graduate, I hope to find myself in a graduate program at an organisation like Powerlink or Energy Queensland, gaining broad experience across transmission, distribution, renewables, and control systems. My goal is to find the intersection of technical engineering and big-picture planning — ideally in a role that contributes to grid modernisation and energy transition projects.
I started this blog to document the process — not just the wins, but the work. Whether it’s projects, study, or reflecting on shifting careers, I want this space to be an honest record of my journey to become an engineer.
Thanks for stopping by.
