Last night, I had the privilege of being elected Industry Manager for the Electrical Engineering Student Society (EESS).
It was a competitive process, with five strong candidates putting their hands up, and I want to acknowledge the effort and ideas each person brought. It’s a sign of how much passion there is the club.
I put a lot of thought into my pitch, drawing on my past year as a General Executive, my background in marketing, and feedback from lecturers and industry contacts.
My vision for the role focused on three key areas:
- Streamlining our communications: extending the website to include a dedicated marketing funnel to keep industry in the loop about our upcoming events, prospectus, and opportunities.
- More industry-ready projects: launching at least one new thesis-level project within the club and with academics that multiple students can collaborate on and build real industry ready skills.
- Teaming up with QUT’s entrepreneurship department: giving students with market-ready ideas the tools they need to pitch them, and connecting founders with engineering students who can build.
My pitch slides from the night:
Sharing these here feels like a good way to keep myself accountable for the promises I made.
My vision isn’t just about getting my name out there, it’s about building systems that will keep benefiting students long after I’ve moved on from the role.
I’m genuinely stoked to have been chosen for the role, and can’t wait to see what I can deliver over the next year for students.
